What is the Harmonized Tariff Schedule?

The Harmonized Tariff Schedule and Code System is an international classification system that classifies imported goods according to a standardized code. Every type of product is assigned a specific code. Each country then applies individual tariff rates to each type of product. Harmonized Codes are very specific. You must make sure the correct classification codes are written on the paperwork attached to your products. Otherwise, your products may be held up at customs. Work with your supplier and shipping company to confirm that the codes on the necessary paperwork are correct.
